LatinitasMagazine.org - A Strong Voice for Latina Youth

The net and social media sites make it easy to share too much information and to let off a little steam. As some teens use Facebook to rant on their latest frustrations, complain about their parents and share what is going on with their families, some parents are starting to go to extremes to fight back. One dad filmed himself shooting his daughter's laptop and posted it on Youtube after the girl made some rude remarks about her parents on Facebook. Another mom took over her daughter's Facebook account after she continuously shared family secrets online. The mom posted a picture of her on Facebook with an "X" over her mouth and the caption, "I do not know how to keep my mouth shut." Do you think the parents are justified to embarrass their kids as punishment because they were being bratty and rude?  Or do you think these parents have gone to far?

Check out these links to learn more about what drove these parents to embarrass their kids as punishment....

You might find that I'm probably in the minority who thinks that parent's are in their right to discipline their children as they please. It's called tough love and sometimes if people don't learn the nice then you have to use what means gets to them the most. I saw the video for the man who shot his daughter's laptop and I admit it was probably too much but I also understand why he would be frustrated if it was an issue that had continued to persist. Plus parents embarrass us all the time... I know my mom does but we deal because they're going to be the only one's honest enough to tell us when we're messing up and if they sugar coat it for use then how else are we to learn? Of course I don't support abusive discipline there's a line I don't think parents should cross and most parents don't.
