My College Roommate Nightmare

I had to postpone writing this blog until I could cool down and look back on this year's roommate disaster with a positive attitude. It is now that my school year is over and my apartment drama has long passed that I can look at my experience through a different lens. Last summer I left El Paso with nothing but positivity and excitement for my Junior year of college but as soon as I set foot in my new Austin apartment, a dark cloud formed over the new school year. I honestly didn't think that…See More

Mexican Inspired Clothing: Fashionable or Disrespectful?

As the weather starts to warm up in Austin, I’m starting to notice a very interesting new fashion trend. There seems to be more and more people wearing clothing items that resemble traditional Mexican clothing. I have seen a handful of people wearing shirts with Mexican-style embroidery and even seen a few people wearing ponchos and huaraches. I started wondering if someone had raided my grandparents' closet! This fashion trend really surprised me for a couple of reasons. First of all attitudes…See More

When Feminism Stopped Being a Dirty Word

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 12:00pm 1 Comment

For a long time I had one response for someone who considered themselves a feminist and it was, "Get over yourself". I couldn't stand women telling me, "Don't buy from them, that's a sexist company!" or "Don't go watch that movie, the director is a misogynist" or "Don't say 'hey guys' to a room of girls, because that's rude!". I figured that there were so many rules to being a feminist that I would just never get it right, or end up offending someone if I ever tried…

Quit Complaining and Enjoy The Lights

Posted on December 30, 2012 at 3:30pm 0 Comments

Each year when I come back home for the holidays I am always surprised to see how much has changed in my city. New highways are being built, we are getting an awesome new shopping mall, a downtown stadium is in the works and new restaurants are sprouting up everywhere! Even though I am a person who doesn't always appreciate change I am actually very glad that the city of El Paso has decided to improve the city. It's about time! It gets very tiring hearing people complain about the city being…
