Fool's day in December

December 28th it is known to many Spanish-Catholic descendants as “El Dia de los Santos Inocentes.” To a lot of young ones that do not know the history behind it, it is the Hispanic April Fool’s Day, or the day to pull pranks on friends and family. The pranks on this day range from very innocent jokes, like switching the salt for the pepper to very cruel and unexpected pranks. Usually, when the victim falls for the prank, the joker tells the victim “inocente palomita te dejaste engañar,”…See More

Far Away From My Latinos

The biggest minority in the USA is the Latino community. When I was living in Texas every other person that I saw was what I would consider a brother or sister, a person of Latino or Hispanic descent. It was so easy to bond and make friends. This invisible automatic bond that we shared in common is our culture and our dynamic, free spirited personalities. The way that we…See More

Red underwear, stuffed suitcases are my favorite tradition.

One of my favorite family traditions is our New Years celebration. Every year my family goes to Monterrey, Mexico and gathers at my abuelita Cuquis house for food, party and games. We are a highly superstitious family and we like to follow the latest trends that will bring good luck to the new year. There is one particular tradition that never fails each year and this is to give someone a pair of red underwear, symbolizing endless amounts of love for the coming year. This tradition was soon…See More

Latina Influence, It Took 10 Years!

Posted on November 21, 2012 at 12:55am 0 Comments

I grew up watching Disney and Nickelodeon, the shows that were on during my early years will always be a part of childhood. Besides the clothing and the technology used in the shows, the whole look of the protagonist has changed. The blonde, funny all american girl that was popular in the 90s and early 2000's now has evolved into a different image. As I flipped through the old channels that I grew up and identified with, I came to understand that the new image is…

Posted on November 21, 2012 at 12:09am 0 Comments

Thanksgiving, the one National day to sit down, enjoy a lovely meal with your loved ones and give thanks for any personal reason. Like most people, I am thankful for my family, friends, education, health, etc... But as the celebration approaches I have come to realize, that all this time I was forgetting to give thanks for 5 very important factors, without them Thanksgiving would not be the same. I give thanks to my 5 senses:

Sight: I am thankful that I can see, so…
