HISPANIC.

I like the term Hispanic better because I feel that it's more correct and general than to zoom in and classify a person by their country of origin. I've always thought it odd that many people I know put a lot of emphasis on what country they are from. "No, I'm from Chile" and "Oh NO, I'm from Puerto Rico definitely not Mexican ."In the United States, do you ever hear a Caucasian/Anglo/White person say "no I'm not British I'm Australian." Or "my grandparents are from Austria" They don't separate…See More

"Usted"or "Tu", that is the question!

Growing up I was taught by my parents to address my elders as "Usted" in Spanish instead of "Tu".Though they never told me to refer to them like that as well. Now that I think of it that would be extremely strange for me to say Usted to my parents.Anywho, I tend to be silently horrified when I hear a cousin or a co-worker say Tu to an elder. A couple of my cousins speak spanish only once every blue moon so if they forget the "rules" about how to speak to our grandparents I suppose its…See More

Girl Rising, an Insipiring Documentary

Girl Rising is an extremely inspiring documentary that follows the lives and looks back on the life changing struggles of several girls from all around the world. The difficulties that these girls have had to face can be hard to imagine but this documentary sheds light and knowledge on the silent battles being fought and won. Resilient and outstanding girls and young women everywhere are fighting for basic rights (such as primary school education) and a better quality of life. Girl rising does…See More

"Great topic! Groups projects can be tricky. In my major, learning how to collaborate and work in groups is essential. However, sometimes not everyone has the same ideas and opinions, and that's when one must compromise. It's all a learning…"

Jasmine Villa commented on Nelida Neri's blog post Group Projects in School (and life), Play Nice!
"I really like what your professor said. Personally, I really dislike group work because I was always the one that had to do most of the work since most of my classmates did not care and wanted to do the minimum work. I like TEAM WORK, which is…"

Group Projects in School (and life), Play Nice!

Have you ever been in class assinged to a group with or sitting next to a person who doesnt speak the same language you do or who doesnt speak english bery well? If you let it, things can get very frustrating. They dont have to be though. One has to learn that being understanding and practicing empathy is a part of life, and yes can be a part of group projects too. First of all, the fact that they a person doesnt speak the same language you do makes them no less intelligent than yourself. They…See More
