"Dropping out of school is not a good idea. I understand that bullying is a tough situation and it's really hard to concentrate on things you like when people are being mean to you. But don't be afraid to speak up! Tell a teacher or a…"

2013 is almost here!

As 2012 is walking out the door, 2013 is coming right in. Although 2012, was filled with many good times and will forever hold great memories, the promise of a new year is always very exciting. I hope that 2013 is filled with more cheer and good times than 2012.See More

Food Lover's Delight

I recently had a Thanksgiving potluck dinner with my friends at college. We each brought a different dish that ended up creating an excellent dinner. This fun dinner with friends sparked my thinking in terms of how well this applies to American culture. During the first Thanksgiving, the Native Americans brought their own cultural dishes while the British brought theirs. This tradition continues today in a much bigger way. Just walking down the streets of Washington, DC, I see an Ethiopian…See More

Finding Work-Life Balance (for STUDENTS!)

It is interesting to see so many articles online talking about work-life balance for working adults. However, the more I feel pressure to do so many extracurricular activities, work, and study, it makes me wonder why we do not talk to teens about this skill. It seems a student's day is never over. We wake up early in the morning to go to class, think critically for hours at a time, then after school, we begin our second shift. We do sports, clubs, and study. After all this, we're expected to…See More

Sara Maldonado replied to Irena Fierro's discussion What do you think your Ethnicity is?
"Both of my parents are Guatemalan and I was born in the U.S. I consider my ethnicity to be Latino. I feel this term encompasses the idea of being a U.S. native with a Latin American background. However, things do become a bit trickier to label…"
