Stereotype truths

Burritos, sombreros, tamales and these days, drug cartels. It's what usually comes to mind when people think 'Mexico.' But is there more than just spicy food, blue beaches and political incompetence to our

neighboring country? Of course there is -- just as there's more than

fat, ignorant, loud people to the U.S.

If living on the border of two different countries has taught me anything,…

Stereotypes...

Ok so as most of you know that I will be writing a piece on the stereotypes that Hollywood portrays Latina/o and fortunately I have some streotypes that I found yesterday and was thinking of using for the article. Some of the streotypes that I found are villains, the drunk, the female that everyone falls in love, the maid/nanny, the gardners, and portraying Latina women "plump". These were so far some of the stereotypes that I was going to go with, if you guys want to add your…

Latina Women in College Teams

Who said that women cannot excel sports? Well in El Paso, Texas the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) acknowledge their women's softball team on Saturday. The majority of these women were all Hispanic women coming from states like Texas to California. How cool is that!! I think it was awesome how now women, especially Hispanic women, are given the opportunity to excel in MEN SPORTS!! The softball team at UTEP, have been quite succesfull. Also it's pretty awesome that Hispanic women are…

Boys? BLAH!

This Blog is not to hate on Boys or Men. It is not about being sexist and talking about the opposite sex! This past Thursday I took my totally awesome, cute and super Gorgeous Cousin Alejandra to the mall and for Chico's Tacos. Alejandra is AKA Ala. She is 12 years old and is like a little sister to me... I love her to death. Anyway, she told me that a boy in her school asked her to be his girlfriend. I wanted to kill her ( not literally) but I made a choice to listen to her instead and gain… Continue

National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month (February)

Never be afraid and always push yourself

Today my political science professor was discussing how the school funding works and the education of students in Texas and in the U.S. What interested me is that he said that the GT, Pre-AP, and such programs are reached out to a limited amount of students and leaving others out. That the state is categorizing students as the ones that are gifted and those who are normal students leaving the normal ones out. Some teachers according to his interviews with students expect so little from them and… Continue

Dia de la Cande... que?

So I am like so Mexican! My family is totally Mexican too! Anyway, with that set straight on January 6 we got together at my mom's house and had a rosca de reyes. In the rosca is a little plastic baby and if you get that baby you have to make Tamales on February 2. In our case it was rigged becasue no matter who got it my aunt had to make the tamales because she makes them really good. So where does this tradition come from? "February 2nd also falls forty days after Christmas, and is celebrated… Continue

LADY GAGA: Opinion

Okay you guys, this was supposed to go in my school paper but it wasn't put in for different reasons. Not because it wasn't good! This had quotes in it before, so if you think the things she says are better off in quotes tell me! Cuz this is the internet and you can do that :P

Singing the first verse of “Bad Romance” Lady Gaga is seen wearing a spandex body suit with flashing light up bones of a dinosaur over her face and abdomen. After seeing such performances as these, I find… Continue

An Education

I recently saw the film an Education starring Carey Mulligan. I became very anticipated to see the film after I watched the trailer online and I knew the film was going to be a great hit, it was getting great attention and acclaimed reviews. There is nothing better than a good anticipated film, though I was prepared to be disappointed of the film actually appearing through our cinemas since it would be considered a foreign and independent film. The… Continue

"Estamos todos desunidos pero queremos amor"

Escribo hoy en espanol por que mi enojo es tan grande que siento necesario expresarme en mi lengua natural! La madrugada del Sabado un comando armado de 15 hombres llegaron a una casa donde se llevaba acabo una fiesta de cumpleanos. Abrieron fuego y mataron a 14 personas! Ocho de esas personas eran estudiantes uno de la universidad y 7 de secundaria y preparatoria. Me pregunta es por que? Por que ya no hay respeto hacia la vida? Entre estos estudiantes se encontraban dos muchachas una de trece… Continue
