Dancing into Awareness

As I'm sitting here, I can't help but think of everything that I have left to do in my final semester in college.

Well... okay, I'll be honest, all I'm thinking about at this point is Spring Break. But more specifically?

The fact that I'm going to Chicago, Illinois, where it's currently 30 degrees, with the possibility of snow flurries. Now, being from Texas, where it's currently 60 degrees (and let me tell you, that's a little too cold for me) you might be wondering why in the…

Hair and Honesty

Once my friend came to school with hair that looked like it had been cut with a weedwhacker. She came up to me, with that modern-art-looking hairdo, and asked what I thought about her hair. I smiled and said it looked great! Then she came up to another friend, a girl I'll call Allie, and asked the same question. Allie looked at the hair in obvious horror. "Fix it. It looks terrifying."

Allie's answer (though a bit rude) made me think. We say a million small lies every day…

Girl Scout Cookie Protest - My Thoughts

As the proud older sister of a Girl Scout - a Brownie, to be exact - I see this cookie boycott as defamation of a highly respected and honorable organization.

Girls Scouts of America is an organization that stands on the platform of teaching girls fundamental skills and values to contribute to society. They are taught to be respectful, kind, honest, caring, and a list  of other positive virtues -- nothing along the lines of pro-abortion. The Girl Scouts' Twitter and Facebook…

Why voting matters

Voting matters. Sure, some of us might not be 18 yet, but THAT doesn't matter.

You vote when your mom asks you if she should make chicken or tuna salad for dinner. You vote when you decide who is going to be crowned Homecoming Queen at your school. You vote when your professor asks if the test should be moved one day. You vote when you and your friends are deciding what to do on Friday. You vote when you decide who is going to be the next president…

Loving yourself is a life long process

Some days, I feel like I'm la reina del mundo and everyone should bow down to me. I feel as confident and carefree as a Beyonce song. But I also have days where I look in the mirror until I can't find a single thing I like about myself. I'll start to compare myself to girls I see on tumblr or girls with perfect bodies and perfect hair. It's a self deprecating spiral that I know all too well. These days are unavoidable, but it's important to remember that these feelings of hatred are…

Homesick? Here are some quick remedies!

College: A time for fun and self discovery. It's also when you realize what great people you had in your life in your hometown. But, hey, that doesn't mean you can't find amazing people at college!

Reflect

Sometimes, it's easy to get wrapped up in your homesickness and mope around. That isn't a bad thing either though. It shows that you valued what you had going for you back home. I don't blame you! I was in the…

Where do I fit? How would I get there, petite and thin.

Ok, let me start off by saying that I went "missing in action" for quite sometime... Many things come and go, and I'll try my best to be on here, but it is not a promise...

So I've decided to kind-of-sort-of blog about my weight. Let me get this straight, it's extremely frustrating to see how "obsessed" people are about loosing weight, literary that is all I see, but does anyone ever think for those people who want to gain weight? Only those who want to be fit.

Being a…

College 101: Don’t Forget to Defrost the Meat!

Typically, as a freshman, you are most likely to live in the university dorms. This usually means: no kitchen. You are, however, generally allowed to have a mini refrigerator, a low watt microwave, a crockpot, and a blender. So this pretty much means no “real” cooking is expected during your first year in college. However, for those who start living in an apartment or those freshman who choose to live in an apartment during their first year, face the struggles of buying enough…

Not a Princess or a Snob

“I thought she was a complete princess and would be a total snob.”

Yes, Latinitas, this is what I truly thought of a girl who is now one of my closest friends before I had met her. I am embarrassed to say this, but I judged her before actually getting to know her. I thought this because of the way she walked, talked, and acted with her boyfriend. She seemed like she was a bossy, prissy girl- not a girl I wanted to be friends with.

But, the first week of…

Graduating. Well, Not Yet. But Soon.

So right now were are in the middle of Ring Week at UT Austin. "What is ring week?" You ask. Well, ring week is the week where people whom are eligible to get their class rings (people who have completed about 75% of their degree) can place their orders before the official ring ceremony in April.

And .... I'm eligible!

Something a lot of people do not know is that during my first semester at UT, I REALLY wanted to transfer. It took me a while to adjust to being away from home.…

My Crazy Weekend

This past weekend I went to surprise my brother in San Antonio, but to get there I had to stop by Dallas. I had never traveled by myself, and my biggest fears are heights and airplanes (I blame it on the movies). So I knew that my trip was going to be interesting. When I left El Paso I was doing like four "Our Father's" ,"Hail Mary's" Praying, everything! I finally got to Dallas, and I felt like I could finally breathe! Until . .…
