Outraged! At Immigration Law

United States is a land of immigrants. The only native people to this country are the Native Americans and we have even managed to put them in reservations and they are more like outsiders than natives. What type of country are we creating? A country where I can be stopped because I look hispanic (well duh! I am mexican)and if i don't carry a birth certificate i can be arrested and probably deported. It seems like we are going backwards! What happened to civil rights? Or better yet, what… Continue

Survey Says...

Ever wonder how come so many young girls are obsessed with their bodies and how they look? To answer this question, people have come up with the solution to blame Hollywood, the media, and reality shows. By their help, teens have looked to these outlets and have made a mental note and have set for themselves the goal to look like these thin models/actors/actress. According to Family Education, "The American Academy of Pediatrics, reporting on a survey of 5th- through 12th-grade girls, found… Continue

Latinos in Hollywood

By now I'm sure everyone has heard of the television show Glee. I myself am a self-described Gleek and proud of it. I love musicals and I love the humor. (I wish the cheerleader coach Sue Sylvester played by Jane Lynch would insult me sometimes. That's how much I love Glee!)

Glee has a diverse cast with many different ethnicities, ages, and sexual orientation. There are biracial couples, a teenager who comes out to his…

Tormented Among the World of Men….

So over the weekend, I was watching ESPN, sports movies, and of course the NBA playoffs and I have to realize that in the athletic world MEN are in complete power. Now don’t start to assume that this blog post is to bash on men and make them feel not worthy to exist. Instead, this post is to have women become more aware of how much we put up with while living in a man’s world. With this said, let…

The Real First Thanksgiving

Most people think of pilgrims from England and Native Americans on the Plymouth Rock when they think of the First Thanksgiving in November of 1621. But, the real first Thanksgiving took place along the U.S./Mexico border in San Elizario, Texas with the Spanish in 1598. In April, a celebration takes place in San Elizario to honor this nation's true First Thanksgiving. This event commemorates when Spanish settlers with…

As semester starts to wind down and come to an end, professors all over University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) start to get ready on grading all these upcoming assignments. Ch:8 Lesson to be Learned (In Memory)....

This week's blog is about students losing their friend. It is important to help students cope with the loss of a friend.

In El Paso, Texas two boys had lost their lives due to smoke inhalation because their apartment had caught on on fire. They had lived in Haymon Krupp Memorial public housing complex, right next to where I work. They weren't students of mine, but they were friends of the students that I help with tutoring. It is sad to see a child's face sad,…

High School Tips for Newbies...

Speaking to the expeerts themselves, five high school students shared with me some of the tips that they have learned while being in High School.

  • Be Yourself- Seems simple right? Believe it or not, most teens entering high school feel the need to fit in and be part of "the clique". Avoid it that as much as possible, be the person you want to be and don't change.
  • Talk to Others-…

Overwhelmed

Tweens, Pre-teens and Teens, to me it seems like girls are anxious to advance from the stages. I wish that girls would take the time to grow up. What I want to know is what is the rush? As I look back on my life I want to know where did it go? I feel like Quinceanera was so long ago, now I am about to graduate and I have a three year old daughter. Where is my life going? Everything moves so fast, life is but a flashing light! When I talk to my girls from Armijo club, I feel overwhelmed by the… Continue
