Trash TV vs TV with a purpose

Everyone has its preferences regarding tv programs. It is definitely true that nowadays we have an extensive selection of programs to watch. I think that television should be entertaining and informative, however there are some programs that might be "entertaining" but not informative at all, notice that I put entertaining between quotation marks because there are some programs that in my personal opinion are classified as trash tv. Trash tv to me is television with no subject or objective,… Continue

Proud to be Bilingual or should I say Quadrilingual?

As I was thinking about what to blog today, I was thinking about the importance of being bilingual. I am proud to say that I am more than bilingual. I speak English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese. My passion for learning languages is what motivates me to keep on wanting to learn how to speak in a different language. I don't really understand people, especially Americans, who say that they don't need to learn another language because English is spoken everywhere. It's not only about…

Q&A with Professional Photographer

Photography when you pull the word apart means writing (ography) with the light (photo.) Luis Rodriguez is a photographer who firmly believes his photos tell a story through the eyes of his lens. His first love was film but he became passionate about still photography when he picked up his first film Canon Rebel.

How did you become interested in photography?

Photography started as a hobby. I went to school for filming. Photography is a lot like film-making except your working… Continue

Goals for the new school year

Every new school year, I try to come up with a list of goals that I want to accomplish for the year. I do this to keep myself motivated throughout the school year so I won't become discouraged or even bored half-way through the year. This concept of making goals may be new to some of you but I assure you that goals make your life more fun and exciting. I would really like to know your goals for this upcoming school year? Are there any specific goals that you want to accomplish?… Continue

Beauty Tips from Professional Latina make-up artist

According to Mia Mariú professional make-up artist, Christina Ozaeta, most Latinas are wearing the wrong shade of make-up. Mia Mariú is one of few make-up lines designed specifically for Latina women who have largely been ignored by the beauty and health sector. While most make-up is designed specifically for women of lighter shades, make-up for women of darker shades are usually made for African-American women. Latinas, the in-between shade, have… Continue

Congratulations to Miss Mexico Universe

On Monday night, Mexico's 22 year old Jimena Navarette was chosen as the next Miss Universe out of a pool of more than 80 women. Crowned by Miss Universe 2009 winner Stephania Fernandez, Navarette is only the second Miss Mexico to win the title of Miss Universe. Does this really matters?

Does this really matters? I think everyone has thought about this question many times. Have you been in a situation where you were very angry at someone? Have you been sad beacuse of something, or someone? I think if everyone is honest, all of us can agree in having passed for a similar situation, and the question that might passed through most of us is, does this really matters? Of course you think about this question after you got angry, or after you cry for hours, and if…

Culture Shock!

Culture shock happens when you're put into a new environment, one in which you are not familiar with one in which you may not be too comfortable with. For many, the first time they truly feel the rush of emotions that comes with culture shock is when they leave home for college. Students often feel anxious about meeting so many new and different people, sad that they're away from their family and friends from home, and scared to be in a new city that could sometimes seem like a totally… Continue

Reality Tv

A couple of weeks ago I had an eye-opening moment. It's pretty silly because I couldn't believe I was so blind or so caught up in fiction. I'm with my girl friends

enjoying girl time while watching Khloe and Kourtney Take Miami when all three

of us just realized how fake the show is. We were disappointed in ourselves for

believing that some people live lives based on glamour and money. We were

disappointed…

Girl Friends

All through high school I was close to only one girl but would not talk to her about personal things affecting me. I was always iffy about girls. I'm sure there are many girls out there that feel the way I did but once I came to college I met hard-working girls that made me feel so comfortable. We have fun together, we study together, we get things done together, and most importantly we confide in each other. There is no judging involved in our relationship, just assistance, support, fun,…

Why women should keep their last names

It’s difficult to balance one self, for example I’m a very passionate person. When I get involved in an issue, or organization I truly dedicate myself. However, my weakness is that I sometimes take it to the extreme. At one point, or maybe I’m still going through it, I was passionate about feminism. I was all about not getting married, not believing in fathers walking down their daughters down the aisle, hating cheerleading and hating girls that…

Day 2 of the Texas Latin Music Awards

Wow! Last night was amazing! I hope some of you all were able to make it to the pre show! A lot of fans were there enjoying the music and meeting the artists. I saw Ana Isabelle, PeeWee, and Cristina! All the females went wild when they saw PeeWee! They started screaming and jumping to see him. It was fun to see all the artists embrace their fans and treat them so kindly.

Ana Isabelle is nominated for Best Female Artist along with Alicia Villareal, Diana Reyes and Cristina.…

Jet Setting

So I just came back from Shell Lake, Wisconsin this past week. I went for work, and I taught a color guard camp to a small group of high school students of there. It was a truly unique experience being there. Its a beautiful, tiny town, where everybody knows everybody, as you drive down the street, people wave at you just to be nice, cell phone service is scarce, Chipotle is "Mexican" food, the nearest McDonald's is 10 miles away in the next town, and where deer and wildlife occasionally look… Continue

Less is more

I admire the couple that decided to do away with the extra stuff and live simply. The woman has minimized her closet and her life by limiting herself to 100 items.

I don’t know what I would bring if the house was burning down, much less 100 items for the rest of my life. They are working less, earning less but enjoying life more.

That’s one of my goals, to try to simplyfy the items in my…

Choosing a Major

When I was in high school I rarely thought of what I really wanted to do once I graduated. I was more worried about what I was going to do that weekend or who I would eat with for lunch. Towards the end of my senior year I started to worry about what I was going to do. I knew that I had wanted to go to college but never thought about what to study once I was there! It seemed like most of my friends knew what they wanted to do and were prepared already, while I was still guessing about which… Continue

MAC's "Juarez" line not so pretty

Juarez. It's a city that suffers from a violent and wide spread drug war. It's a city where most live in poverty as the average hourly wage is less than two dollars. It's a city home to a great femicide of which hundreds of girls are raped and killed every year. It's not a city that should be demeaned into a cosmetic line that minimizes the suffering of many.

According to MAC and Rodarte cosmetic line creators, "Juarez" was inspired by the beauty and struggles of women… Continue
