I need some advice for my friend who is really struggling with his relationship can u help plz. Well the deal is that she thinks there is no more passion and has no choice but to brake up with her boyfriend. Then they want to remain friends but just dont think it will be the same or able to work that way. In my opinion i think its better to be friends than nothing at all unless it was a bad brake up which in this situation it wasn't. So will being friends make this couple appreciate themselves…

Since i was little i always wanted to have straight hair but could never get it the way i want. Then some other girls with silky smooth straight hair say that they would love to have curly hair like mine. Thats when I'm like WHAT you have to be kidding me, having straight hair will be much better and easier to deal with you are crazy to want curly hair. Anyways its weird that what we do not have is something we want so bad while others want what we do not. Maybe confusing but is there a similar…

First of all Happy Latino Month to everyone!
My family is pretty proud of our heritage year round, so a certain month meant for hispanics makes no big difference. Although, it is a good thing to have a month to bring attention to our heritage. I am so proud that I am a Latina, and this month I am really helping out with the Latinitas clubs and I think that it is important to be enthused about it. It is our culture and the month to show how proud we really are.

How many of us talk to or even know our neighbors? After the rude awakening I got this morning at 3 a.m. to my dog barking hysterically, I ran to the front of the house to see what was going on. My neighbor was out front smoking a cigarette. There have recently been some problems in my neighborhood, so he freaked me out. First, a few weeks ago, there was an incidence where my sister went into her room and heard someone knocking on her window. After yelling, "Who is it?" I walked in and asked…

I don't remember my mom. You see, she died when I was a toddler from cancer. I makes me kinda sad that I was too young to have any memories of her. I grew up with my tia instead. Even though I can't remember her, I've started to feel more connected to my mamacita recently. My Tia has been giving me cooking lessons and she is teaching me some of my mom's old recipes. To me, it is really cool that I can connect with my mom who passed away by cooking the same things she used to make. I've learned…

Yes gals and....well, gals. Many of you may not remember that dinosaur of America Online that is hanging onto it's last breaths. But when I was a pre-teen, a few years after AOL introduced it's Instant Messaging Feature, those chat rooms were the 'in' thing. Before cell phones and profiles, we went into chat rooms. I remember crowding around my friend's bulky computer to talk online and I remember thinking emoticons like :P were "soooo cool." Little did we realize, that we were…

So i recently came across this awesome organization called My Hero! mentoring program that helps children within the dove springs area. Since i live fairly close to this area, which is in South Austin, i decided that it would be good to become a mentor and to be a hero for somebody else that may not have the best life. So far i've completed most of my training and i'm on my way to making a difference in somebody else's life rather than my own, and let me tell you, im super excited yet really…

This weekend my mom bought herself a new flatscreen T.V. with a DVD player attached. It's pretty cool, but we already have one in the other room so I wasn't jealous that my mom will be watching her fave telenovelas on the clear flatscreen in hers.
I was the one responsible for showing my Mom how to use the television and her DVD player. It's times like these that I realize how behind my mom and many older adults are with new technology. I had no patience as I watched my mom freeze when I…

This summer was the best that I've had in a long time, that's because i went to Spain.
It was a whole different world for me. New culture, new food, and new language.
people here believe the Spanish in Spain is the same as it is here in the border., but its a whole lot different.
The first few days, i was lost. But i got used to their way of life.
i loved it! Im defiantly going back their maybe for college. I experienced a totally new culture. i went to San Fermin which is…

Will you be back?
This is scary
Am I just trying to hide?
Hide from the truth
Holding onto my hope
Holding onto you
Ignoring what you told me
Believing what your body said
Holding onto you
Holding onto false promise
The promise that you'll be back
I don't like this feeling
I don't like what you said
So I try to change your meaning
Afraid of what your words really said
That this love is dead

I think Hispanic Heritage Month is cool cuz it brings attention to the Hispanic people and their contributions to this country. I think everyday should be Hispanic Heritage Month. I celebrate by going to special events. My school does different activities. Since I live on the border, there are lots of things to do this month like fiestas. I went to a carnival for Diez y Seis with yummy Mexican foods and bandas. I've seen some cool things on tv honoring Hispanics like the Alma awards. It was…

How many of us are children of migrant workers? or have cousins or brothers or aunts or uncles that are migrant workers in the fields all across the U.S.?
I have a few cousins in Mexico that have helped harvest chile and corn fields here in the U.S. I don't really know much about them, but I do know that they are hardworking people who because of the necessity to feed their children and help out their parents back home have sacrificed their educations, some not even having completed…

I do not personally celebrate Hispanic Heritage month the way most people do, however, I do attend local church bizarres. They are fund raisers for the church and people within the community attend and participate in the events that go on. I remember going to lots of bizarres as a child and those were the most fun I have experienced. Eating gorditas, churros, tacos, etc. Playing games such as fishing, where you would try to catch the prize from the plastic fishing pole or the ring toss. What I…

I came across an article today that discussed the divorce rate in the U.S. and which cities had the highest numbers. Both Indiana and Florida topped the chart.
This got me to thinking about how many children these people getting divorces have, as well as the reasons for the failure of marriages.
I was eight years old when my parents got divorced. However, I must say I'm pretty glad they did. I can assure you that my case differs entirely from that of anyone i've ever met who is either…

My church has been considering doing a work camp next year. We have checked out several travel agents to arrange the details.
Atlas travel has set up a trip to Central America for us, but we are unsure if it is safe. We are also concerned about the medical services there. One person in our group had

Now is the time to start seeking out internship and scholarship options for next summer and fall. Application deadlines start as early as next week (Oct. 1) and it's important for promising Latinas like us to seek out opportunities for personal enrichment.
A program that I would like to recommend for any college students is one that I am quite familiar with: The Hispanic National Internship Program (HNIP). Every semester, including the summer, HNIP places hundreds of college juniors and…

American Idol's first winner Kelly Clarkson was the featured cover of Self this month - or was it her? The magazine is getting some heat for slimming Kelly down with graphic design software. The most ridiculous part is Kelly is quoted in the same article on how comfortable she is with her body and can't understand why the press can't accept her curves if she can.
I think I was most heartbroken when editor Lucy Danziger, an idol of mine for editing the defunct Sports Illustrated for…

Has anyone caught any episodes of the new season of America's Next Top Model? This season Tyra Banks decided it would be the shorter ladies' turn, only allowing contestants under 5'7 to give it a whirl.
This got us here in the Latinitas Magazine office discussing how despite the generalization that Latina girls tend to be shorter in height, there was only one Latina competing AND she was an alternate AND she was sent packing on the first episode! Some of us expected to see more Latina…
