Teamwork is fun!

Whenever I hear the word teamwork, the first thing that comes to my mind is "Oh no, I have to work with people I don't know and I don't know if they're responsible enough." This negative thought is very common among people everywhere. It's hard to trust people we don't know especially when it comes to an important assignment for school. Throughout the years, I have learned that working in teams can be fun. You can meet new people and you can also learn more about yourself. It… Continue

Be proactive!

Proactivity means thinking ahead a situation and act in the most favorable way to make a positive change of it, it means to anticipate and be self-initiative. I think this is the key to every country, business, and person's success. By being proactive you contribute to the natural movement of things, and by the natural movement of things I mean the everyday rhythm of life and to the society "machinery". Being proactive means you are always willing to give that extra mile without having to have… Continue

First impressions matter, or NOT?

I bet that you must have heard that first impressions matter, and that is because they usually do matter. or that is what society tells us. We tend to think that way because we haven't been told the contrary. We as a society are so concerned with image, and what an image portrays about somebody that we forget about the things that really matters. We judge right away after seeing a person and stereotype them. I am not saying that all of us are like that, as in every other case there are some…

Car or Computer?

Have you ever thought about the kind car you want or if you even want a car? I came across an interesting article on Yahoo that mentions how generation Yers are not caring too much about owning a vehicle, the article says “They’re likely to see autos as a source of pollution, not a sex or status symbol.” I think this an interesting point because I do think that cars are great contributors to our polluted world and although I own a car, it does not in any way symbolize my status let alone my… Continue

Continue

Be the Woman You Are

I went to an event that consisted of mainly men. Men who were at least 10 years older than me. I had no idea there was going to be a lot of men there. I didn't know who was going to be there, actually. I went because I thought it would be a great event to learn about my community and a way to get involved. I dressed appropriate for the event and looked professional.

(Just for some background info on me, I am a stylish person. I hate to wear pants when its hot and rarely do. I…

Learning as your everyday meal

It's three o'clock, you haven't ate but air, you are starving and craving for at least a bite of a sandwich or a cookie, have you picture this yet? If you are imaging this as I am doing right know you're probably getting hungry in case you haven't ate yet. But what about those who did eat, are those people hungry? not anymore. Satisfying your hunger is a primary need, everyone knows that. People know when they're hungry and satisfy that need right away, because they don't like to feel…

The power of your mind

Have you ever had a bad day? Have you notice that each time you find yourself in a situation where the day doesn't seem to go as you have planned and keep thinking about that, your day actually gets worse? I got an answer that eventhough has not been scientifically proven seems to me very logical. I am talking about the power of your mind. You may have not even realize how powerful your thoughts are. For example, when you wake up in the mornings with a negative mindset and saying -oh, it's…

My dream place to travel

As I'm preparing myself to travel to Germany for the first time, I had to stop and think about this amazing opportunity that I was given. I'm a bit scared because I only know a few German phrases so I hope to be able to communicate with the people. However, I know that this trip is an experience that I will never forget. Germany will be the second European country that I get to visit because Italy was my first European country. What is a bit funny about this is…

Work for living not Live for working

It is definitely certain that nowadays society is living at a fast pace. It is also certain that we living the "american dream" are so absorbed by capitalism. Consumption is our last name, unfortunately. Yes it is true that consumption is essential to keep moving our devastated economy but, I think we might be taking this too seriously. It is so sad to see people literally living for their jobs, instead of spending time with their families, helping their communities, or just having fun. It… Continue

What does it take to be a leader?

Leadership is defined as the ability to lead. It requires more than being a guide to others. Leadership is about being able to listen to others opinions and encouraging others to do something. Anyone can be a leader if he/she is willing to inspire others and if he/she is also willing to take challenges and overcome them through endurance. Throughout history, there have been many leaders who have done something to inspire others to take action. One person who comes to my mind…

Favorite Hobby

We all need a hobby to enjoy each and every day of our lives. Whether it be reading, dancing, or writing blogs we need to find something that we love and take pleasure in. I know for a fact that my favorite hobby is dancing. I specifically love to dance ballet. I have been dancing ballet since I was 6 years old and I never get tired of it. Ballet allows me to express my emotions through dance. It also helps me to relieve myself from stress. When I am dancing, I forget about everything. I…

Volunteering Service: An opportunity for yourself

Most of us say we want to help our community in one way or another, but the question is, have we done it so far? I bet you that some of you might not, most of us have the intention, but not all of us really do something about it. It is known that volunteering service is good for the person itself doing the service, and for the people for whom the service is being made. It is a both sides beneficial activity. I was involved in some volunteering service, just because I wanted to help. I did get… Continue

Peace

This past weekend I attended a Peace Rally in Downtown El Paso to help promote Latinitas. During the rally, Latinitas was asked to have an activity for the attendees. Latinitas decided to make a peace quilt. The peace quilt consisted of small foam squares in which people were asked to draw or write something that reminded them of the word "peace." Through this fun and engaging activity, I learned about the many interpretations that people have about the word "peace." Some people… Continue
