I'm Homesick...Now What?

If you are a college student who has moved away from home like I am, homesickness is probably creeping up on you. I find the fall semester to be the time I get homesick the most. This weekend I heard from several people that they were heading back home for a couple of days, and it made me extremely jealous. The change of season along with rainy days in Austin this week really hasn’t helped my case of homesickness. Because I am 8 hours away from my hometown, the first time I am able to go…

I am, because you are

Sometimes I don't want to keep on going, the many obstacles that I (we) counter in our daily lives, leaves me wandering if I should keep on going...

I was born in a family of 4 men, my dad, and mom. My mom never had a strong voice over my father, but she did had a power connection to each of my brother and myself. I love my oldest brothers, like I love my fushia shirt. Why? because I was not raised with them, and when I met them, they only thing they did was criticized me. I know they…

a subtle protest against book banning

Recently, I've noticed that I've been surrounding myself with people who read. Not just people who read magazines, blogs, facebook statuses or twitter, but people who actually sit down and enjoy a good page turner - or the new technological rendition,Kindle, or something of the like. My old roommate would sit for hours reading The Lord of The Rings, my cousin, and some good friends from El Paso use books to pass the time instead of watch whatever's on the tube, but I wonder if it's just the…

How I Learned To Put Down My Cell Phone!

4 techniques for curbing smart phone addiction

When I first started university I was, shall we say, a bit too attached to home. By this I mean, I had just started a post-graduate degree in Journalism in New York, yet my heart (my family, my friends, and my boyfriend) were home in San Francisco, California.

What’s a homesick, lonely girl to do, but text and chat on her cell phone every waking hour to keep tabs on what’s going on at home? However, my school work started…

I am the best.

Halloween, anyone?

It's that time of the year again... well, almost. Okay, okay, so it's more than a month away, but I'm already thinking up some great costume ideas. I'm a sucker for history and I'm in love with the clothes and music from past eras (I'm a little disappointed in my generation's aesthetics), so I'll take any excuse I have to dress vintage. In the past, I've done:

- Audrey Hepburn (specifically Holly Golightly from the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's)

- 1920s flapper

-…

Sometimes is hard to stay focus... specially when the commitments and deadlines come at the same time. I really try to stay focus and get everything done before I get a serious breakdown.

There are many recommendations to stay focus in anything you do, but I want to hear more; what are you recommendations to stay focus?

  1. motivation?
  2. eating healthy?
  3. working out?

The Future

Okay Girls,

So for as long as I can remember i've always told people i wanted to be journalist. I was pretty convinced. It was what I wrote about for my high school papers, it was what i honestly thought I wanted to do. So this is awkward. Lets fast forward about 2 years. I'm just about…
