The New Trend in Movies: Making a Movie Based on a Book
There is a growing trend in the movie industry, which is to make a movie based on a book. Some recent movies that have followed this trend include Twilight; New Moon; Eclipse; Harry Potter; Eat, Pray Love; Dear John; The Chronicles of Narnia; The Last Song; among many others. These movies have had a great acceptance from the general public. However, they have not been widely acclaimed by most fans of the book. I can say that I enjoy watching the movies but I rather read the…

Halloween is celebrated each year on October 31, is a mix of ancient Celtic practices, Catholic and Roman religious rituals and European folk traditions that blended together over time to create the holiday we know today. Halloween is a time of celebration and superstition, it has long been thought of as a day when the dead can return to the earth. Ancient Celts would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. In the 19th century, Halloween began to lose its…

Teens in the Media!
As girls at times we get extremely caught up in the things we see on tv and especially in all the drama we hear about our favorite stars, but is the message they send us teens always a good one?
Recently the media was raving about Justin Beiber allegedly hitting a 12 year old boy, is it true? well we're still not completely sure but it's crazy to hear something like this about the guy girls are crazy about and the one some younger boys really look up to. What message is Justin really…

Prepared for College
For a lot of us seniors we can't wait to graduate and well others whish we still had another year. I had always thought a lot about my college plans and I always took initiative when it came to finding information, but for a while now i've been wishing that maybe I could have a little more time.
As seniors we're swamped with making the best out of our grades, joining as many clubs as possible, applying for colleges and trying to attend all of our last high school events, but at times…

You're Hispanic?
Blonde hair, fair skin, green eyes, standing at 5'6", that's me. Growing up I was always called "guera" and people at school insisted I was white. In fact I am hispanic. Not only am I hispanic but I am full hispanic. Many of my friends after meeting me the first time could not believe it but, yes it's true. Many people have an image of what a Latina or a Hispanic girl should look like. I am definitely not what they think of. I however, am proud of who I am and my culture. It is something…

What's on Your Ballot?
My mom and I are both very opinionated people. Today we had a discussion concerning the well being of our community. We realized that the November 2nd elections are coming up and we have no idea who is running and what their platforms are. I did my research and I'm ready to vote now.
It's important that we be…

Susan G. Komen for the Cure
October is considered breast cancer awareness month. Many rallies and fundraisers are held throughout the month to help put an end to breast cancer. During these events, people wear pink to show their support for this noble cause. A strong advocate for breast cancer awareness is the Susan G. Komen for the Cure movement.
The Susan G. Komen for the Cure global movement was created by Susan's sister Nancy Brinker. Nancy started this…

Self esteem is your opinion of yourself. High self esteem is a good opinion of yourself and low self esteem is a bad opinion of yourself. Self esteem is very important because it affects how you think, act and even how you relate to other people. It allows you to live life to your potential. Low self esteem means poor confidence and that also causes negative thoughts which means that you are likely to give up easily rather than face challenges. You can loose opportunities and…

One Of The Guys
So we've all heard of the term one of the guys right? Well the other day a friend was talking about how in her drivers ed class a boy was upset that he was missing the baseball game due to their class, so when he sat down she turned around and told him what the score was, and where the players were currently positioned and just about all you would possibly want to know about the game. The boy in her class was extremely surprised to hear that she knew so much information and that she actually…

Great Help :)
For school we recenlty started this fundraiser for kids in third world countries who couldnt't afford school supplies. The fundraiser is called UNICEF and it takes place during the month of October. The fundraiser was a bit tedious because we had to go around practically begging students to donate change to fill little halloween themed boxes. At first I was etremely excited to be doing this community service project but then I found out something great that inspired me even more!
As I…

A stand against bullying
In many recent stories and reports, bullying amongst teens has become a huge deal, and there's a lot we can do to put a stop to it, but many teens won't stand against bullying. As teens we don't always realize when we are bullying but we do it quite often, when we talk about the way someone looks, talks, or maybe just who they are in general we are bullying and it can be extremely painful.
I remember a time when one of my friends was constantly being bullied and made fun. She was the…

Classifying Messages in Advertising
We live in a world where advertising plays an important role in our society. We are bombarded with lots and lots of messages about what should we have, what should we wear, what should we eat, where should we go, etc. etc. etc. Advertising is everywhere, it is practically your daily bread, so we have to deal with that. The issue here is, how are you dealing with ads. Do you let ads influence your life that much, or are you able to classify ads into what is convenient to you and what is not?…

Many of us are fortunate enough to have friends who are part of our lives throughout all our ups and downs. However, sometimes others we consider friends appear to enter, then depart from our lives for reasons we try to, but don't always, understand. Yes, thats because some people come into our life for a…
