We all know the feeling, but somehow it gets worse in senior year: That fateful day when people find out their class ranking. My senior class is pretty miniscule, so within half an hour we could guess at the entire list of rankings, and it shook our world up. The people closer to the top were envied, and the people bringing up the bottom of the list expressed their freak-outs in various ways. This madness begs a question: When it comes to helping your friends, how much is too much?
I…

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a manual handed to you at every holiday, that told you the "right" way for a Latino to celebrate it? Off the top of my head, I know Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July would get a lot easier! Since we come from a different culture, it can be complicated sometimes, knowing what to do on a Dia Festivo that isn't around in Mexico. So of course today, I have to ask, and I hope you will respond: As a Latina, how do you tweak Halloween to fit your culture, or what…

Can anyone else relate to Linus?
In case you aren't familiar with Linus, he is a little boy from the Peanuts comics or the movies that come out during the holidays. Linus carries around a blanket to bring him a sense of security whenever he feels he is in an uncomfortable situation to make him feel better and calm him down. As a college student I also have a security blanket but it isn't something that I have to carry around with me…

Graduation came sooner than I thought!
Today in the mail I received my Graduation Cap and Gown :) I was so happy but at the same time sad. I worked so hard for the past four years of my college life and the end is here. All my friends are registering for the next semester and it makes me a little sad that I wont take any more classes. Unless I go to grad school. This moment is pretty scary for me. I'm…

What inspires you?
"The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience." Eleanor Roosevelt
Sometimes, you're having a muddled kind of bummed-out day and a grey cloud seems to be hanging over your head. Sometimes, you need a little sunshine. Quotes can be helpful. They…Continue

Guest Blogger - A GUY talking about True Beauty
So at the office, the interns and I, especially the avid blogger Araceli, talk about mylatinitas and blogging. We have 2 guy interns at our office that often feel left out since mylatinitas is GIRLS ONLY!!! And we would like to keep it that way but we would also like to give them the opportunity to blog, since we're all about equal rights right?? hehe.
Eric is our very funny and creative graphic design intern. He decided to write about a girl's true beauty, so here it is...oh…

Scary Scary time of Year
It is that time of year once again, time for the Halloween!!!
Latinitas interns have been talking about scary movies and their common themes. The one thing we can all agree on is that Paranormal Activity is the most popular "scary" movie this season. I am scared of scary movies and cannot watch them. But paranormal Activity is funny not that scary so I can watch that.…

A Day in the Life of a College Student...
I remember being in middle school and not knowing what to expect when I went to college.
I knew I wanted to go to college but I all could see was myself walking around a big campus, carrying 30 books with me and being late to class.
The funny thing is I was lost but I got over it. I got myself a map, I got myself some e-books and I woke up a little earlier. Problems solved.
You might be thinking college is impossible or unattainable but it isn't! Look at my schedule and…

ok so today in my psycology class we debate about nature vs. nurture development.
NATURE deveolpment is your genes basically;
the thing that you inherit from your parents when you are born and your personality.
NURTURE is how and environment affects or influences you in your behaviour,
your thoughts, your personality.
so do think you are because you were made that way or you think you are because the environment
the things around you make you that…

Be ProActive! :D
Hey Latinitas!
I want to ask y'all something...WHY do you go to school?!
Is it to talk to friends, see boys. or to, I don't know, get an education?!
My answer is....to get an education! :D
I know with all the other distractions in school and with friends, we tend to forget the main point of why we're in school, 180 days of the year, 8 hours a day.
School is the place to get your education on! It's the place to attain knowledge…

Texas Book Festival! Day one!
The Texas Book Festival is a festival held at the capital every year. It is free to the public and it is tons of fun. This year was my first and it was a great experience. Authors that have published books come to this festival and participate in panels. They talk about their book and their writing experiences. On Saturday I visited the panel named "The Secrets That Girls Keep," the authors who participated in it were Jill Alexander, Rosemary Clement-Moore, and Jennifer Ziegler.
Jill…

AHHH the Beatles
My favorite band of all time by far has to be the BEATLES. It is what I listen to in my car and here in the office of Latinitas. I LOVE John Lennon before the age of 25. :) (I joke around that he is my soul mate) he made such amazing music and I am saddened that the world was robbed of his extended talents. I am also a true fan of his first wife Cynthia Powell, and have avidly been reading her biography. I love seeing pictures of them when…

Don't be afraid to SPEAK OUT!
If ANYONE is hurting you in any way, physically or mentally (this includes bullying and any other form of abuse), don't be afraid to speak out!
Let someone know what is going on and how you are feeling. Don't ever keep it in.
There are countless people out there that want to help and CAN help you feel safe again.
I know it is scary to tell someone what is going on, but it is not okay for you to feel hurt and afraid. You do not have to…
