I have weird teachers. This is an understatement. However, my government teacher is also something of a genius. Yesterday we had a journal that talked about what a student would do in the case of a zombie apocalypse. . . .There was a point to this in the end. Before the hour ended, my teacher told off the senior class while giving us a pep talk. It came down to this: There are 7 billion people in the world that WANT WHAT YOU WANT. How are you going to set yourself apart from the rest of the…Continue

All your way through high school, you will hear that your senior year is the BEST OF THE BEST! You won't have to do annny homework, classes, nothing. Basically just show up to school, go out with your friends, and wait happily for college. What nobody tells you is that college doesn't just come by itself. You actually have to fill out these things called applications, that ask you for all this information you have never heard of in your life. Then comes the nervous time of waiting, waiting…Continue

Set goals for yourself. Both long term and short term.
And when I mean for yourself, I mean FOR YOURSELF, not for anyone else.
I know your parents and your school may have expectations of you, but what do you want for YOU?
Maybe you’re thinking, I’m really young, how can I possibly think of what I want for myself? But NO! That’s the wrong way to think. You are capable of determining what you want in the present (now) and in the…Continue

Are you bilingual?
If you are,
being bilingual is probably one of the most unique things about you.
It might not seem like it because almost 35 million people are Spanish speakers in the United States but if you understand, speak and write another language other than English you're way ahead of the game professionally. I know of a lot of adults that get paid to translate articles or news…Continue

When it comes to weightlifting there continues to be many misconceptions such as, "I don't lift weights because I don't want to get bulky" and "only guys lift weights." Truth be told many girls actually do weights and you won't get bulky if you lift weights, that would require loads of supplements and drinks, intense training, strict dieting based on your body, and even steroids! We don't have the same hormones as males so chances of getting bulky is not very probable. Through…Continue

Through my life I have learned from personal lessons (and those of friends) that there is always a wrong and right way to go about handling the boy(s) in your life. First, boys will always be confusing or frustrating to some degree. Whether they’re your dad, your brother, your crush, your boyfriend or your husband, things never change. We’ll never fully understand them but we also aren’t supposed to, just like they’re never going to understand us.
Second, never let a boy (or…Continue
This year's Thanksgiving with my family was a little different than the past years. What we did was get into a circle and we each said what we were thankful for. We were all emotional when we said what we were thankful for. I'm thankful for so many thing and I'de like to share them with you.
I am thankful for being blessed with such a beautiful heathy baby boy. He's such a good baby that always bring a smile to my face. My life has changed so much and every minute I spend…Continue

Every winter, I have the hankering to take a trip... a trip to a literary world that is! Okay so that's a little cheesy but seriously, this winter break do your best and read a book. Novels are amazing and you can learn a lot from them even if most are fiction. There's just something special about you being well-read. Trust me, the more you read the classier you become. I mean sure Harry Potter's not exactly sophisticated but it is SO entertaining. You can get so wrapped up in the lives of…Continue

After I saw this trailer, I just thought how this movie is using the drug violence as entertainment. I can't confirm this, since I have not seen the movie, but even the movie…Continue

I was going over a lesson at one of my Latinitas club one afternoon that involved writing a paragraph. One of my girls finished hers rather quickly and as I read over it, I was a little bit in shock. I always knew writing complete sentences could be an issue but suddenly I…Continue
The big buzz on the lips of women activists and on the painted fingertips of empowered business women is the new documentary called Miss Representation directed by Jennifer Siebal Newsom. Check out Miss Representation here. And that's has me thinking about what role is being played in the lives Latinas? Who is aspiring them to achieve more? Do more with their lives? Not anyone I see on day-to-day magazines! It is important to…Continue

Aging is happening ALL the time. It's happening now and now and even now! It's important to realize, however, that there's always those people that have aged and now are our grandparents.
Grandparents are beautiful people that have lived amazing lives at amazing times in history. Sure getting sloppy kisses from grandma can get a little annoying but you sure enjoy her tamales, don't you? Maybe you should think about asking her how she learned to make such deliciousness. I'm sure she…Continue
The good wedding idea always highlights the charm of your wedding ceremony and gives the bride wearing an elegant discount wedding dress an unforgettable memory for you.
Come to design a special guest sign book. You can not use the traditional sign book but use T-shirts instead. Each guest signs her or his name on the T-shirt. In the climax of the wedding, the couple can put on the two T-shirts with the guests’ names…Continue

When I was younger my mom always cleaned the entire house all by herself. I'd go to school and my room would be clean when I'd come home. I grew up with a stay at home mom so she always cleaned and cooked for us. This was nice I never lifted a finger and when she would ask me to clean something I remember i would get really upset. I never really appreciated all the things she did for me until I moved…Continue
I just read an article about the word "illegal" in illegal immigrant. It is derogatory and it defames people when used. It encourages people to discriminate and to stereotype people. It's interesting how people feel so strongly about the term. I appreciate how hard these organizations are working to stop prejudice. Stop and think about other words we use everyday that may hurt others. I'll keep you updated on the AP Stylebook's…Continue

I was in San Antonio this past weekend when I heard the terrible news. A fellow classmate had passed away Friday night. RIP posts were flooding Facebook and people were heartbroken. This friend graduated in the same class as me and he was good friends with some of my best friends. I never knew him personally but it felt like I did because he had such a vibrant personality. He was the class clown and the football team's kicker. He was such a free spirit and everyone loved him.

I am almost done with my first semester of college. Thank goodness! Was it what I expected?
Yes and no. It is challenging. I had to ask myself if this is what I wanted, because sometimes I wanted to drop everything and give up. I am not a quitter, but I felt alone some times. I was not used to being on my own for so long. Like every other college freshman, I was feeling homesick. Fortunately my family is only two hours away, and I could visit them frequently. My family was extremely…Continue
