This semester I was required by my theater class to go see a play created by my fellow students. Being someone who isn't very "cultured" in the theater community because I don't really go see plays very often, and the information about the play I was coming to see seemed like a very common topic that wouldn't be very moving.
The topic? Beauty. Different scenes embodying interviewees' perspectives on beauty and their definition of it. Being a college student and having gone…Continue
By now you've probably heard of the Keep It Real Challenge. Keep It Real is an organization that is encouraging people to tweet, blog, post and fight for popular magazines to feature less Photoshop-dependent images. It's hard to find a nationally distributed magazine that doesn't have an airbrushed or otherwise manipulated picture of a woman's body. Even Seventeen and J-14, both of whose readership consists of preteen to teen-aged girls, depend on Photoshop to…Continue

For as long as I can remember, I have been taller than all of my peers. I was always placed on the top level when school pictures were taken; always the one with the high-water pants in middle school; always being asked if I played sports, etc. Growing up, it bothered me that I stood out so much. Eric is our very funny and creative graphic design intern. He decided to write about a girl's true beauty, so here it is...oh…Continue
Not long ago, a friend of mine suggested I read an article on photo editing and the media. We all know how controversial this issue is and how important it is to make girls aware of it. However, is it me, or are magazines ridiculously editing magazine covers? Because a few weeks ago, I stared noticing that many of the photo edits are very obvious.
I remember seeing a cover of Britney Spears on Cosmo and her head looked too small for her body. Another time, I saw…Continue

I recently had a conversation with one of my friends about the way Latinas dress. Because I posted up a previous blog about this and my friend isn't Latina, and asked me if I thought that Latinas dressed more provocatively than women in other cultures. I really didn't know what to answer. I mean, Latinas are very diverse and our ideologies are extremely varied.

First of all I'd like to say, I'm glad to have the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful community. It's great to know there is a space for young Latinas to share their thoughts and views. I'm very grateful that I'm allowed a space in this wonderful community.
I wanted to share something that has been bothering me. I read an article on Latina.com (…Continue
