"What About Now" Deluxe Version - Bon Jovi

“Whoa! We’re half way there, Whoa oh! Livin’ On A Prayer!”

Maybe you’ve heard of the classic “Livin’ On a Prayer” somewhere, at least once. “Livin’ On a Prayer” has been around since 1986, it’s creators, Bon Jovi since 1983. Yeah. Pretty long time, and yes, they are still around and rocking around the world.

Last month, Bon Jovi released their twelfth  studio album “What About Now”.  It then became their fifth number one on the Billboard Top 200 chart. Being a devout fan, I…

A Belated New Year's Song

I received a ukulele for Christmas and the first thing I did was join my dad and brother in learning this holiday song. It's our rendition of Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's cover of the song "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?" originally sung by Nancy Wilson.

Hope you enjoy it!

xoxo,

Lucia

Austin City Limits Not so Latino

Latinitas has the wonderful privilege each year to engage in the national music festival called Austin City Limits, that takes place annually here where Latinitas was founded.  It's an amazing opportunity for our young journalists to cover one of the most widely attended music events, nationally.  Each year, the festival seeks out some of the most exciting and inspiring up and coming contemporary Latino band or musician that almost systematically blows the crowd away. For multiple years…

ACL!

Last weekend I was able to go to Austin City Limits, and let me just say it was one of the best days of my life hands down. From the walk to the concert grounds to hanging out in the media tents up to the amazing artists I got to see, the entire day was an adrenaline rush. When you walk onto the…

are you listening to the right music?

I was reading in a New York Times blog that "Teenagers listen to an average of nearly 2.5 hours of music per day". One in three popular songs contains explicit references to drug or alcohol use,  meaning that young people are receiving about 35 references to substance abuse for every hour of music they listen to. Is what we listen to important to our behavior? The New York Times seems to be aiming that it does. Although I would like to point out that young…

My life as a Beatles fan

I’ve been listening to the Beatles since I was a dancing fetus.

At four years of age, I already had in mind who I wanted to marry. Unfortunately for me, the only four men I thought I could ever love were either 50-something years old or… dead. Their music, however, was as fresh as it had ever been.

The Beatles, whose career peeked in 1964 and lasted until 1970, were one of the most successful and influential bands in the history of popular music. In fact, they…

Song Covers

During my many searches to discover new songs, I've come across many covers of songs that already exist. A "cover" is when a band or artist records a song that was previously played by another band/artist. After listening to many different covers, I've come to the realization that for the most part, I like them more than I like the original song. Weird, I know. Here's a list of a few songs (in no order) that were covered by a different artist and why I enjoyed their version…

Belanova at the 2012 Neon Desert Music Festival

The second annual Neon Desert Music Festival took place in downtown El Paso on May 26, 2012.  I still remember attending last year's first ever NDMF and instantly feeling like something special had made it's way to the Sun City as I walked through the San Jacinto Plaza.  This wasn't just a roundup of random bands with a couple of food vendors on the side.  This was the beginning of something that the city had been yearning for- an indie music scene that celebrated local, national,…

My Motivational Playlist

Lets face it, being a motivated chica isn't always easy! We all have those days, weeks (or in my case months) where its hard to find inspiration to do anything other than be lazy or sleep. You know you have been there, whether you find yourself staring at a blank screen, a blank page or even a neglected pair running shoes.

Getting motivated isn't an easy task, thats why when I need a pick me up I rely on the power of music. It is truly amazing how listening to one…

Cedar Park got $leazy.

Spank Rock, LMFAO, and Ke$ha- in that order. Wednesday, August 3rd, at 7:00 P.M., the line to get into Cedar Park Center was out the door- literally. Hundreds of glitter-covered girls eagerly waited on the sidewalk, tickets in hand. Spank Rock kicked it off to a great start and had the floor going wild- so much that a push pit was initiated! After a few songs, there was an intermission, and LMFAO's banner was unrolled for all to see, eliciting a few excited screams from the crowd. Minutes… Continue

Feminist Eyes- Changing the Image of Women in Music Videos?

Today I read this article from the Washington Post after my professor mentioned it: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/03/12/AR2010031203929.html Debra Lee from BET wants to improve the images of Black women that…

LADY GAGA: Opinion

Okay you guys, this was supposed to go in my school paper but it wasn't put in for different reasons. Not because it wasn't good! This had quotes in it before, so if you think the things she says are better off in quotes tell me! Cuz this is the internet and you can do that :P

Singing the first verse of “Bad Romance” Lady Gaga is seen wearing a spandex body suit with flashing light up bones of a dinosaur over her face and abdomen. After seeing such performances as these, I find… Continue

Music: imeem/MySpace merger

The recent and sudden end to imeem still has me shocked. The online music service had the largest variety of songs (from mainstream/non-mainstream artists) that I've ever seen. Pandora--no match for imeem. On imeem, users could search songs by artist or song name and could find related songs (a great tool for discovering musicians/songs and expanding your music tastes). Playlists and favorites were other helpful features. Users could also explore… Continue

I bought the new lady gaga cd today before I went into the office. I love, love, love, love her!!!

It's awesome and her music is soooo catchy!

And funny thing is a lot of the lyrics on the new album remind me of these past few months, and though the bad memories from these past months outnumber the good memories, I still love love love the cd!

Minor Misdemeanor for Rapping

Two teens were cited by police this week in Utah for rapping their order on a McD's drive-thru!

Really? For rapping?

Having worked in a drive-thru for years (at DQ when I was 16 and at Starbucks when I was 18+) I've come across some crazy people that do and say crazy things, especially on friday nights, but I never would've thought that rapping an order would've been serious enough for a ticket.

As a matter of fact, being on the drive-thru listening to those kids rap their order… Continue

Latin Music USA

Ever wonder where Reggaetón comes from? Before Daddy Yankee was making big hits in the U.S. charts, DJs in Puerto Rico were mixing drum beats from popular Reggae from Panama with Hip Hop in the 90s. I learned interesting music trivia like this and more about salsa, latin hip hop, pop, tejano, and rock n roll on an interesting PBS show during Hispanic Heritage Month. Latin Music USA highlights the roots of Latin music in the USA showing the musical influences that inspired La Bamba, Selena,… Continue
