It is my last semester as a college student....exciting right? Well everyone seems more excited than me, and it makes me wonder why. Is it because I'm scared to leave my comfort zone as being labeled a student and all that surrounds it? I am excited don't get me wrong but I feel like even tho I plan to go to graduate school it isn't the same. The upcoming change scares me, and I'm sure there are hundreds of others that feel the same way but as life is full of fears this is simply another…

Women make strong leaders because they bring a different perspective to the table. Through time every major decision has been made my male influence because of our patriarchal society. Now its the time for women to speak up and share what they have to offer. Every opinion should be taken to consideration regardless of gender because of the influence that it could have in our decisions. Although women as leaders have always been flawed because of pregnancy, it is no more than an excuse.

Loosing has never been easy, regardless of what it is you loose being a friendship, relationship,a race, keys,a job, a pet, or a family member. Life has taught me that no matter what I loose in life one must learn to move forward and learn to live with what you've lost. Positive thoughts are helpful as well as the people around you. As I have lost a lot in the past year I have gained a strong character and experiences which I can use to help others. I know this is not my diary to write my…

Just a couple days ago me and my brother caught my little fifteen year old sister doing something she shouldn't be doing, smoking. She was smoking in her room with her friend and obviously the smell made it obvious. My mom wasn't home and me and my brother weren't sure of what to do. We talked about it and we made the decision to not tell my mom and have a talk with her. We let her know we weren't going to stop her because it was her body her decision, we simply let her know of the…

Today I saw two videos on Human trafficking focusing on immigrant women. It focused on their stories trafficking to the the United States. They are either kidnapped or given the story of a life changing experience in order to have them go voluntarily. These women are sexually exploited and exploited in many different ways by men and women. Taking advantage of their undocumented status it is hard for them to believe their is a way out of their situation. It was so sad to see what these women…

Since I lost my job I have felt lack of motivation to look for one. I've made some attempts and i even had a temporary job for 3 days. Yet the lack of motivation to look for a job just doesn't seem to grow in me. This is the first time in my life that I've been without a job ever since I started working at age 16. At first I felt frustrated and upset. Now that i started school and with my internship at Latinitas I'm enjoying my time without a job. I have the time I always wanted to work…

Earlier today I was reading an article about how we define a problem. I found it very interesting because it opened my eyes and made me realize the answer to a problem that had been pending in my life. My father past away last year on father's day and it was a hard times for me and my family. As time passed the biggest problem seemed to be that no one in my nuclear family felt support from each other. A problem is defined based on the values that we are raised with and make for…

I came across an interesting article that cancels out the myth that only white girls have eating disorders and explains how Latina women are also affected by eating disorders. In fact, Latina women tend to express a higher dissatisfaction towards their body compared to girls from other racial backgrounds. Since Latina women seem to be the most unrepresented women in this country this article explains how Latina women are also affected by eating disorders. It caught my attention because it…

Yesterday I was fired from my job because of a man who felt offended and intimidated by a strong young lady. I had been a server at Red Lobster for the past 4 years and six months and the gentleman complained because he said i had rudely and aggressively asked him to wait. I know this is only a one side to the story but I felt I did my job and I did the right thing by asking him to wait in order to fix his problem and get a manager. The man didn't have any complains about my service…

While growing up I had several discussions with my mom because of the things my brother was allowed to do but I never could. I was raised in a family where the man is the breadwinner in the family and the the mother is the housewife. Being raised in such environment pushed me and motivated me to become a feminist and interest me in topics that relate to gender. My brother was always allowed to to do things that I never was including joining after school activities. While growing up and…
