Being Too Hard on Yourself

I'll admit there's certain girls my age that I look up to. At the age of 20, so many of us are exploring life in different ways and making sure there's record on Facebook and Twitter of every step we take. Sometimes these social networking websites serve as an inspiration for a life that we wish we could have and quite frankly, we leave our own footmarks to fade in the past. For example, I went from being a busy college student to coming home for the summer without registering for summer classes and without any luck in finding a job. The rest of my friends, who decided to stay home for college, have their established life still going on while mine is on hold. I feel like yelling, "I'M ALIVE TOO!!!" as I scatter on the floors of my brain searching for a path to take. Everyone seems to have it together except for me (refer to photo on top for a clearer visual image.) 

THEN I ASK MYSELF: Who have I been all this time? Who am I right now? Who do I want to be?

Well the answer to all these three questions can be summed up into a sentence that begins the story of every one of my obstacles and accomplishments, "hi! My name is Adriana Candelaria, it's nice to meet ya." I was "Adriana!" when my mom called me from the kitchen as a little girl. I was "Adriana Candelaria" when the principle called out my name at high school graduation, when I showed proof of identification while cashing my first paycheck, and when I received my first traffic ticket. Every time, I will be Adriana, and it will never be the wrong answer because everyone is thrown specific bundles of life lessons at a time that no one can take away from you. 

These girls I've been admiring are mighty muscular, but then again, everyone is. It all depends on how you allow life's punches to sculpture you. Are you going to allow them to throw you down or will you gain a scar that will later make a good story?
