Gina Rodriguez emerged as a rising star mostly due to her infamous role as Jane Villanueva in the CW comedy series Jane the Virgin. Earning her first Golden Globe win for Best Actress in a Comedy Series in 2015. Her inspiring acceptance speech won the hearts of many watching that night, especially when recognizing the unconditional support of her family, mostly focusing on her father Genareo Rodriguez. Admired by many, it is not just her talent and charisma that draws people's interest in her, but her unapologetic identity. She is a person that embraces her Latina identity, and is outspoken in creating space for what it means to be Latina today.She is also passionate in advocating on issues that are directly affecting the Latino Community. Gina Rodriguez was born in Chicago, Illinois, the youngest daughter of Puerto Rican parents Genareo and Magali Rodriguez. At the age of seven she was enrolled in St Ignatius Prep School, and at 16 she was among the elite accepted to Colombia University Theatrical Collaboration. She then attended NYU Tich School of the Arts and graduated with her Bachelors of the Fine Arts. She earned many roles including the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful earning her first Imagen Award nomination, then a role in the film Filly Brown, won her the Imagen Award.
Gina Rodriguez is also involved in multiple charities and humanitarian organizations. Most notably are the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, where she was appointed as one of the directors, The Parent Advocacy Coalition for Educational Rights, and a partner of Naja, a lingerie brand who's mission is to advocate for single parents and the environment.
Rodriguez represents who the modern Latina is, and what she strives for. She is confident, proud and a strong person who is not afraid to dream big, embraces her own unique Latina identity, and helps others in the community. She is creating and representing a diverse idea of what it means to be Latina.
