The girls in the after school clubs had an introduction lesson on computer science. Computer science is telling the computer what to do and how to do it. In order to communicate to the computer, one must know the language that the computer understands, just like we speak English and understand each other because we all speak the same language. The language we speak to the computer is called code. We have to be very specific when it comes to the language we speak to the computer. The girls had the chance to play the "human" and the "computer".
One student was given a piece of paper with a drawing (she will be the human). The other student was given a blank piece of paper and a pencil/color pencil (she will be acting as the computer). The human will describe to the computer how to do the drawing, giving step by step instructions. They have to be very specific on the instructions they give. They are not allowed to see each other’s piece of paper during this part. At the end of the activity, they can turn around and see how close the original image is from the one drawn by the computer.
