LatinitasMagazine.org - A Strong Voice for Latina Youth

In honor of Dia de los Muertos on November 2nd, the girls were able to paint stones as if it was a sugar skull, seen on altars on the day of the dead. A big part of the Mexican tradition is to honor our relatives who have passed away. It is a day to celebrate where families go to the cemetery to be with the souls of those who have passed and build private altars containing their favorite foods, beverages, toys, photos, and memorabilia. The purpose is to encourage visits by the deceased spirits, so they can hear the prayers and the comments from the living. Celebrations can take a humorous tone, as celebrants remember funny stories and events of their loved ones who have passed.
