Disrespecting Latinas because of thier skin color

Hello ladies :) Today I am bringing you a blog to read about and maybe take into consideration. This blog post happens to be about Latinas getting disrespected and judged by there skin color.

I myself volunteer at a high school were I go and help out a teacher I have known for quite sometime. It happened to be lunch time for the students. So I had gone to enjoy lunch myself outside and sat down at one of the lunch tables. As I sat down there happen to be 2 other young ladies who happen to speak Spanish themselves that were eating lunch at the same table. And they had apparently thought that I did not speak a word of Spanish I guess and did not know I was a volunteer because they chose to talk about a young lady who was in walking distance of us. Now I happened to know this young lady because she was one of the girls that I had previously met before and she happened to be a sweet young girl/ Latina herself even though her skin color was lighter then there’s.

These 2 young ladies figured because she was of a lighter skin color that she could not be Latina or that she did not speak Spanish either. I was in disbelief because they were saying that light colored girls like her are not good people. That girls like her think they know it all. And that they just didn’t like her because she didn’t speak Spanish.

I looked over and said excuse me but I would appreciate if you didn’t talk about or disrespect any other person including a innocent human being who happens to be a Latina herself who has done nothing to you. They quickly got up and walked away in complete surprise.

In conclusion I myself am stating with great passion and strength that just because someone is of either a lighter skin color, medium colored or even dark colored skin does not give anyone the right to say they are not good enough or that they are bad people or even that they do not belong! Everyone is beautiful in there own way and everyone deserves to be treated the same. Never judge someone by the color of there skin. To get respect from others you have to give it. Treat others as you would want to be treated. Always remember!!! Si se puede!!!!!

Great post! We totally need to move beyond judging people based on the color of their skin. Latinas face enough challenges and stereotypes.  It is so important for us to stop putting each other down and just support our hermanas!

unfortionatly yes i have come to see this quite a few times in different manners...thats why i wrote this blog in hopes someone would come across it and stand up in the right manner for people especially latinas who might be getting disrespected...everyone is equal..and everyone deserves respect...thanks for your input and comment girly! have a great day.

I agree, si se puede! That is sad when people judge others on a basis of skin color. Luckly I have never been judged by my light skin color or had trouble "belonging". In fact, whenever I'm shopping the cashiers always speak Spanish to me because they think that (maybe) I can't speak English. But I have always thought it was because I have dark hair, not my skin color.
