My favorite part about spring isn’t just knowing that summer is quickly approaching (which of course means warm weather, sandals, and tank tops!) but actually that spring cleaning is bound to happen. It gives me a chance to remove all my winter clothing from my wardrobe and get prepared for the beautiful 70- and 80-degree weather.
Each year I go through the clothing I find clothing to donate to a local charity or clothing drive. It’s the perfect way for me to give back to my community while freeing up more space in my closet. When this happens, I always end up with a closet full of unused hangers that I don’t know what to do with—at least, I didn’t until I found a few crafts that repurpose old hangers. My favorite hanger craft is called a jewelry holder. Here's how you can create your own:
Small cup hooks
**Ask your parents for permission to use a drill and use with caution.
Step 1: Using a drill, place evenly spaced out holes in the bottom side of the hanger. Be sure not to make the holes too close together, because the cup hooks must twist in the holes. If they are too close together, the wood can splinter, leaving a large hole in the hanger and making it difficult for the hook to stay in place.
Step 2: Twist small cup hooks into the existing holes until they are flush with the surface of the hanger. Make sure that the hooks are facing a direction that allow the jewelry to be easily be taken off the hanger.
Step 3: Find a place to hang the hanger. I use a nail inside my closet door.
Step 4: Add jewelry like earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and anklets to the hooks.
Personalize your hanger by painting it your favorite color! The best part of making a cute portable jewelry hanger is letting the creativity flow.
