It's May... Finally!

Hello ladies,

May has finally graced us with its presence! For those of you who don't know, May is National Military Appreciation Month. As a way to give back to the troops serving our country, I've adopted a soldier and have committed to sending weekly letters and monthly care packages for the duration of that soldier's deployment. There's are tons of ways to help support our troops, and I figured it was about time to show my patriotism.

Today, May 3rd, is also National Two Different Colored Shoes Day & World Press Freedom Day -- two very important reasons to celebrate. National Two Different Colored Shoes Day lets us reflect on individuality  and diversity. If you think about it, we basically wear matching shoes every single day of our lives. Why not break the cycle one day a year by wearing a different shoe? Seems simple enough. We're bringing awareness to why it's important to be yourself, so sport two different shoes today-- I am!

World Press Freedom Day is also important. Without freedom of the press, I don't think any of you would be able to connect with one another the way we do now. Imagine a world with strict rules to limit the kinds of news we recieve on a daily basis-- we'd be pretty lost. Today marks a day where we can appreciate freedom of expression, because every one of us on this network has done so one way or another. Let us not forget the gift we have, and the power we hold to connect and share with one another-- it is truely valuable.

May has tons of holidays and awareness issues, and I just mentioned a few. It's easy to forget the little things, so it's good to have days and months where we can reflect on things that are easily overlooked. Let's not forget about ourselves either. In the midst of finals and the few days left of school, it's easy to lose ourselves. Take some time to yourself every now and then. I find myself running out on a small trail near my school. It allows me to escape reality, even if it's just for a little while. So as major projects and finals roll around, be sure to keep yourself sane and motivated.
