Low Riders vs. Honda Civics

I went downtown to Lincoln Park last night and noticed the amazing murals under the Spaghetti Bowl. Many of them illustrated Chicano figures and low-riders. After gathering some information, I realized a grand majority of Chicanos in the 70's and 80's were really attached to their glamorous cars which is why El Paso dedicated the mural area to Chicano lowrider pride. If you've ever been to a car show in El Paso, you will find the polished vehicles dressed in shiny rims and bumpers that almost touch the ground. Well, all this car-pride reminded me of something going on nowadays that is quite similar to the lowrider trend from the 70's and 80's... HONDA CIVICS. Lately they're everywhere I tend to see them strolling around the street with a collection of stickers pasted on the windows and plush toys hanging from the trunk, many of them dropped low to the ground with loud competitive mufflers. It makes me wonder if it's just an "El Paso" thing to carry pride in the image of our cars. Personally, I know many of my friends that spend time fixing their rides up and making sure it represents their unique personality. I'm not a very passionate person about cars, but nonetheless I enjoy watching people discharge their creativity in any way possible.
