Tuesday night, MTV premiered a new show called "Girl Code." It focuses on, yes you guessed it, a girl code that women should follow. Yeah, I know. You've heard about a guys code, right? Something about bros before women and other dumb stuff. Well, I guess MTV thought women needed the similar rules within their gender. The show consisted of female commentators, comedians and celebrities. There's a lot of snarky commentary, but it has potential with its underlying important themes.
The first episode tackled three main topics and this is what they had to say about them.
Their main point was to embrace what you have because size is not everything. Women should not be jealous of each other's body. Quite the lesson here.
Be cool around your crush and be careful on social media. It may blur the line between what's appropriate to know about your crush, stalking is not okay.
3. Girl Roommates.
Be careful who you live with. Communicate with your roomies and avoid sharing problems.
I'm not sure that I'll watch the show again. There were some parts that were a bit annoying and very stereotypical. I do not think I have ever considered a general girl code when it came to handling my friendships, but that's just me. Although these first themes were universal and a great start for discussion, I wonder what other girl code rules are going to come up in future episodes.
The commentary was comedic and I wonder if the show will gain popularity.
Did you catch the premiere? What did you think of it?
