Tips on how to network.
I recently attended a networking event, on "how to network".
Have you ever heard the saying "it's not what you know its who you know?" I half agree with this saying because to me its an even amount of both, you do have to know people to get to where you want to be in life, but if you educate yourself then you will have a lot to say, and opinions to give which will also get you to where you want to be in life.
But for those who wants some tips here are some I've learned and are very useful to me,
1. Always make eye contact, Listen to what the person is actually saying, if you are talking to someone your whole attention should be on them. I find it rude when i am talking to someone, and their eyes are drifting as if what i say is not important.
2.Don't look at your phone, if you get a phone call, then ignore it. unless its an emergency , don't be on the phone. We get that our phones are a BIG deal to us, but if you are trying to make a connection with someone, the cellphone won't be useful to you.
3. And this is a big one, Find something in common with people, if you are like me you can never find things to talk about with people. But I've found that icebreakers in big groups tend to get people talking. So say that someone is wearing a really nice shirt. tha'ts a good excuse to talk to someone, ask them, where they got the shirt, how much, etc.
Without flirting of course.
I also tend to think of Who what where when and why.
Have backup questions! Guess what we have GOOGLE :) all you gotta type in is
"get to know you questions" or some variations of that. Doing your research will always make you feel prepared so put some time into it! Also , Be happy!!
SMILE :) if you are a social person, but its hard for you to meet people, just smile too, people like happy people.
