Q&A with El Paso Baseball Diablos Player

What is your earliest memory of you playing baseball?

I started playing baseball when I was eight years old. I think my best memory was when my mom and my dad went to go watch me play.I was so nervous because it was my fist time. That night I didn't want to go out and play because I was so scared, but after that it was really nice.

Why did you start playing baseball?

My father taught me how to play baseball since I was about two years old. And all the time I would tell him to take me to the ball park. Then we moved, and the baseball park was next to were we were. So then I started playing with a couple of friends.I think I started playing baseball because of my dad.

What is the best thing about playing for the Diablos?

The best thing here are the teammates. That's the first thing. And the the crowd, the fans. Even when we are losing, they support us a lot. They don't care if we are losing by a lot. At the beginning of the season we were losing a lot, but the people, they don't care about that, they still come to the ball park. And I think those things are the things that are helping us win. Out of the last twenty games, we have won the last seventeen. It helps us do well.

What is the hardest thing about being a baseball player?

For me, I'm from Venezuela and I left my family there, my wife, i don't have kids yet. But all the time, I travel a lot. That's the hard part, not having your family there. But this is for a reason, you do what you like to do and this is your job.

So when did you move here?

I moved here March, and started spring training for like two weeks or three weeks. And after that the season started.

Who is your favorite baseball  player of all time? Why?

Let me see, Mariano Rivera, he's pretty good guy, I like the way he is. He looks like a nice a guy.

If you could not be a baseball player, what would you be doing?

Father. That's the second thing that I want to do. Baseball and being a father. I don't know what I would do for work, but that is what I want to do, to be father.
