It is evident that Racism is alive and well today. It was not just a thing of the past in the times of the 60s and such. It exists today in our neighborhoods. There is a war against miniorities today. The color of your skin and the type of clothing you wear can show cause as to why you deserve to die. Take Trayvon Martin for example. He was just a regular 17 year old African American kid in Sanford, Florida. Florida is one of the most racist states. Anyways, a so called "Neighborhood watchman" saw Trayvon and continued to harass him. He felt threatened by Trayvon because he was black. It is uncertain what would have occured if Trayvon was white. At any rate, that Neighborhood watchman, George Zimmerman, remains free because he was acting in "self defense." The plea of self defense seems to combat well against the obvious evidence that Trayvon was much lighter than George and the fact that Trayvon was heard crying for help. The realities of hate crimes are scary. It is frightening to know that even today, people are still lynching and beating up minorities just because of who they are.
