As the sorcerer lifts the gentle ballerina up he also brings her down
Every chance she has of escaping his grip, he pulls her back in
A terrible shame and embarrassment follows her like a shadow
She is now a broken toy mangled in his presence
Instead of putting her back together or throwing her away,
He merely keeps her on a shelf isolated and without hope
Other toys hear her cries, but the toy maker dismisses her claims
Without this occurring he said I wouldn't need to make more
This was the article that inspired this poem I wrote in 2008: a Russian judge has ruled that sexual harassment is a-okay because it ensures the survival of the human race. [This article enraged me even as a budding feminist at 15 before I even could express my anger, I turned my sadness over that situation into a poem.]
April is Poetry Month & Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) in the United States.
