Latinitas - A Strong Voice for Latina Youth

Are you bilingual?

If you are,

being bilingual is probably one of the most unique things about you.

It might not seem like it because almost 35 million people are Spanish speakers in the United States but if you understand, speak and write another language other than English you're way ahead of the game professionally. I know of a lot of adults that get paid to translate articles or news reports in English to Spanish. Can you imagine getting paid for being bilingual? It really does happen!

There has, however, been a recent phenomenon occurring where young Latina girls and boys are not taught Spanish at home or at school despite their parents and teachers being fluent in it. If you do know Spanish hold on to it! It's a beautiful language that not everyone has the opportunity to learn.

You think you know you're Spanish well? Try these trabalenguas or tongue twisters and find out!

Paco Peco chico rico
Insultaba como un loco
A su tio Federico
Y este dijo
Poco a poco
Paco Peco poco pico

Dime cuantos cuentos cuentas cuando cuentas cuentos.

Tres tristes tigres tragan trigo en un trigal.

Camarón, caramelo,
camarón, caramelo,
camarón, caramelo!
