The day after tomorrow will mark the one day of the year where we're supposed to give thanks to the people in our lives as well as be grateful for what we have. Despite there being the word 'thanks' in the holiday's name, most people only care to have turkey and all the fixings without even so much as a thought. Many pray right before they take their first bite of food, and then settle in to their plates to fulfill their growling tummies and forget about all of it.
So today, I will not only be writing about what I'm thankful for but also what I'm not thankful for.
I am eternally grateful to my parents, brother and sisters. Although they get on my nerves, (yes even now that we are all, or should I say most of us, are 'adults') I wouldn't be the person I am without them. They've taught me patience, how to read, ride bikes, rollerskate, play nintendo, and a whole mess of other things on a list too lengthy to mention.
I am eternally grateful for love and friendship.Without my friends. I would not have learned how to balance the fun or happiness in my life with all the things in my life that I must do like school, work, chores, and errands. They, too, have taught me patience, and how to listen. They have given me the gift of being people I can trust and go to for help, when I can't turn to my sisters or mom. Because of my friends I am open-minded and strong.
I am happy that I have great people in my life. With them as an example, I can easily let go of potentially bad people in my life.
I'm also thankful for my dog shakira...she's awesome, despite thinking my room is her restroom sometimes :(
oh and i'm so thankful i am employed...and for my education
Wow, this sounds sappy, but I swear I'm writing this with a smile on my face, and a spring in my step---well, kind of---I'm sitting right now, but as soon as I get up, there will be a spring in my step.
I'm also thankful for many other things in my life:
-taylor lautner's abs
-lady gaga's music
-gael garcia bernal
-jorge ramos
-betsey johnson perfume
-betsey johnson bags and shoes
- Mexican food
-distractions
- sunset, sunshine, beaches
-classical music
-NPR
-masterpiece theater
- driving through scenic drive or through transmountain rd.
hmmmm... i don't know what else...
On to what I am NOT thankful for: (in no particular order)
-The Lehman Brothers
- The stock market crash
- diabetes
- disease
- global warming
- oppression
-violence
- war
- h1n1
-poverty
- sarah palin
- Speidi
- country music
- unemployment
- new double-sided mammography/pap smear guidelines
- pap smears and breast exams in general
- Stupak amendments
- racism
- freezing weather
- e.coli
- etc. etc.
hmmm.. wow I really thought that doing this, I'd find that there's more to be thankful for rather than not...
but I guess if you look at it, the first list is way more meaningful and more important.
This thanksgiving I'll be having dinner with my mommy and that's it. The rest of my family will be split between phoenix and los angeles. I'm not sad, because as I've said before, I am not a big fan of holidays.
It'll be like every other day at my house, except instead of the usual mexa dinners, we'll be following our pilgrim peeps' tradition: turkey. yummmm...
and you know the next day we'll be having turkey mole, turkey tortas, and turkey flautas. Yeah we'll Latino it up!
